Media during the war
The media has a huge influence on the general information. However during war the importance of the media rises significantly again.
During a war people want information from news sources to find out what is happening and to help them figure out what might happen next. Because of the limited time, news sources are working at full capacity on short deadlines. Under these circumstances, false reports are sometimes circulated and believed by everyone.
When rumors are spread whether intentionally, or not people draw wrong conclusions. Ocasionally information is received by the media, then reported to the public, then found to be inaccurate. Other times, accurate information is reported, but misinterpreted and spread by viewers and listeners causing more stress and panic.

Another aspect which shows exactly how large the impact of the media on the people is. Some propaganda facts:
Charles Masterman was the first to produce propaganda for Britain after the war broke out.
Propaganda was used to recruit soldiers for both the army and navy.
Propaganda was also used to keep spirits up on the home front and encourage everyone to give their time and money to the war effort.
Propaganda also helped stop information that could potentially help the enemy. Propaganda was mainly used through posters.
Britain didn't produce any Propaganda until after the war's outbreak.
Germany had already begun work on producing propaganda even before the war began.
Germany used transportable film machines to entertain soldiers on the front line as well as get propaganda to them.
Germany used mythology in their propaganda, rathr than illustrations.
Some countries produced headlines on their propaganda that was untrue to stir up emotions and have a growing hatred for the enemies.
