What attracts people to watch horror movies? 

 

Personally I believe people like to experience the sensation of watching scary/horror movies. This sensation pumps their adrenalin or  (adrenaline rush). Epinephrine is one of the hormones released in response to stress or emotion, in this case fear. It's the sensation they get from fear that keeps them watching this genre of movie.

I dont think the violence or the senseless killing from the movie is the reason especially teenagers enjoy these movies. It can be quite addictive, once you keep watching these movies, some people may even become an adrenaline junkies (keep wanting to get the thrill). And in like any other movie , you can take your mind off of things.
