Iron man 3 censored and re-edited for chinese audience 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a blog entry in semster one I disgussed that there are countries in which not all media is allowed/censored. So when I heard about Iron man 3 being re-edited and censored for the audience of one specific country (China) I got curious. I wanted to know why the film had to be re-edited before it would be shown to the chinese audience. 

 

"last year alone(2014) Chinese audiences made for $2.7 billion in revenues" 

These statistics oficially make china the country with the most income through movie-ticket sales. 

The chinese wanted to make the movie "to china`s standards"

 

The film was edited to have not only extra footage (significant / and shot in china) but also a native chinese actress named Fan Bingbing featured in the new version. 

 

 Iron Man 3 is not officially called  a co-production, but was a joint production between Disney-owned Marvel Pictures and the Beijing-based DMG Entertainment. 

 

FInally I came across the reason why the films are not all the same for each country, as it was in the past.

 The reason is that China only allows 34 foreign films into the country a year, including 14 that use formats of 3-D. 

 

Personally under these consequences I understand why film-makers decided to modify the film so that their audience could still enjoy the film, however I think that china should just allow more international films because adding about five extra minutes to a film still sounds like plagerism to me, when you don't even label it a co-production.
